What age are we living in? From what perspective can we name this age? These are two very real responsibilities and obligations of intellectuals. From the perspectives of both globalization and domestic China, the author of the present study has developed the concept of “The Age of New Scars” from an intellectual standpoint. Generally speaking, “The Age of New Scars” refers to all sorts of harm and trauma that the inhuman order brings to the individual and community. In a more specific sense, it refers to the throes and damage during the “reform” of China. The author further proposes that only through effective writing of “New Scar Literature” can we express, represent and finally heal this kind of scar.
