Abstract

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English.

Following in the footsteps of Wang Kuo-wei and Ku Chieh-kang, the author has repeatedly pointed out in the last thirty year that the I Ching preserves a number of materials concerning ancient Chinese social, political, economic, and intellectual history, more than we have known, and that they need further examination. In this article the author proposes that acupuncture and moxibustion records may be found in the oracle texts of hexagrams #31, Hsien (Xian), and #52, Ken (Gen) of the I Ching, the most significent Chinese classic closely related to divination, wu shamanism, and the later development of Chinese philosophy and thought.
