—直以來，研究中國文學的西方專著為數尚不算少，但在相比之下，以西方語言處理中國文學理論批評的作品卻並不多見。直至一九七五年，美籍華裔學者劉若愚才推出他那本被稱作「第ー本以當代西方方法分析中國文學理論的作品」：《中國 文學理論》（Chinese Theories of Literature）。此後當然也曾有過有關中國文論的西方專著，但最具規模地全面探討傳統中國文論的還要算宇文所安(Stephen Owen)的《中國文學思想選讀》(Readings in Chinese Literary Thought)。(撮要取自內文首段)
