The title of this piece is a direct borrowing from John Henry Newman – later Cardinal Newman – perhaps best known for his connection with the Oxford Movement (1833-41), and whose Idea of a University was written in 1852, the year after he became Rector of the newly-founded Catholic University of Ireland. The discourses were later published, in 1859. (Abstract taken from first paragraph of document)
