劉鶚《老殘遊記》蜚聲中外，研究日盛。其實，他的《鐵雲詩存》則别有風采。詩中時弊民瘼、自身困厄、戀鄉思親、友誼豔情、登覽題詠、考古雅玩、海外見聞等等，無所不見。其詩興之所至，任情而發；體物寫心，比興優美；俗中見雅，清新俊逸；善於化用，勇於創新，頗含唐詩的豐神情韻。劉鶚堪稱是才情兼美的優秀詩人。其詩學生態值得研究。

Liu E’s Lao Can You Ji well known all over the world, is being studied by an increasing number of scholars. In fact, another work of Liu, Tie Yun Shi Cun, shows a different style. In this anthology of poems, the poet recorded common people’s hardships, the poet’s own perplexity, homesickness, friendship, love story, mountain-climbing appreciation, archaeological study and overseas information, etc. Liu wrote these essays upon the arrival of inspiration. Wonderful rhetorics were used when appreciating an object with elegance concealed in plain words. He is a craftsman excelling creative application of allusion, which is typical of the Poems in Tang Dynasty. In a word, Liu is a poet who has both talent and refined taste and his poems contained certain ecological research values worth while studying.
